Poem: Milestone
I recently turned 30
Hello Reader,
As I recently turned 30, my mind expectedly wandered to reflection and comparisons of who I am and how I feel to where I was, for example, five years ago. There certainly has been a shift, a transition in the past year or two. And the number “30” is just putting a stamp on it all. I hope you will enjoy a poem I wrote on this topic.
Milestone
If Twenties longed for individuality
If they deprived without challenges
If they questioned mortality
If they beautified what is relentness
Thirties come and shake hands
And hold us crazy '90s kids
With ambitions and chaotic heart beats
In safe arms of peaceful amends
Thank you,
Markéta N.

Oh, I love this equal parts lyrical and wry, like a glass raised to time itself.
“Thirties come and shake hands” What a line. That gentle image, halfway between surrender and a truce with time, feels so right. There’s a quiet power in how you balance irony with tenderness here… the kind of poem one returns to with a nod and a half-smile.
Wishing you a beautiful year ahead, Sofie, full of peaceful amends and unapologetic poetry.
Oh I really hope so!!
